Troy Corser Signs For BMW World Superbike Team
The rider team is complete. Following Ruben Xaus’ signature, the two-fold Superbike world champion Troy Corser has signed on as a rider for the Superbike World Championship (WSBK) 2009. Now two of the most experienced riders have joined up to prove the potential of the new BMW S 1000 RR factory motorcycle in the most important near-series racing class.
In 1996 Corser was the youngest rider to win the Superbike world championship at the time and in 2005 he did it again. Corser was vice-champion twice and three times he took third place in the championship. With over 300 races he belongs to the most experienced old hands. His great experience will help the team immensely in developing the BMW S 1000 RR. The factory machine is the base model for the series bike which will be launched at the end of 2009. Corser climbed the podium 126 times and his 42 pole positions gave him the nickname “Mr. Superpole”.
Peter Müller (head of development at BMW Motorrad):
“I’m convinced that be have the best riders for entering the Superbike World Championship. Troy’s experience in this series is unparalleled. Combined with Ruben’s enthusiasm these two are our absolute dream team – exactly the combination which will help us close the gap to the level of top teams as fast as possible.”
Berti Hauser (head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport)
“I am very happy that Troy has joined our team. He is the last piece of our Superbike puzzle. We had him on our wish-list right from the start and I am delighted that it’s all worked out. He and Ruben are the best rider combination for the great challenge before us. Troy told me he is really looking forward to developing and refining the motorcycle with us and of being with us right from the start of this project. He would like to be the first rider to win the championship with three different manufacturers – and he feels both physically and mentally in top form to achieve this goal with us.”
Troy Corser was born in Wollongong, Australia. He lives in Monaco with his wife Sam and his children Kalani Gray (5) and Kelissa Illiana-Rose (3).
