Peugeot HYmotion3 Compressor Concept

With elements of both a scooter and a car Peugeot have unveiled the HYmotion3 Compressor concept at the 2008 Paris Motor Show.  As the name suggests the innovative concept is a hybrid, combining a 125cc petrol engine at the rear and two electric motors in each of the front wheels.

Whilst the vehicle is being labeled as a scooter by the manufacturer, it was developed with a joint effort by Peugeot motorcycle and car divisions.

The three-wheel design provides increased stability, whilst a scooter like width of only 82cm means it still has all the benefits of a traditional bike in an inner city urban environment.  The rider and passenger are protected by rain from a windscreen that extends all the way to the rear whilst two polished aluminium roll-over bars protect the occupants.

The supercharged petrol engine, which already features in existing Peugeot scooters, produces 15kW (20bhp), whilst the two electric motors provide an additional 3kW (5bhp) each.

Peugeot is claiming a fuel consumption rating of only 2.0L/100km and CO2 emissions of 47g/km in the combined rating cycle.  As in a number of hybrid cars, the HYmotion3 Compressor can be driven solely with the electric engines for short distance travels.
