Ian Lowry has been announced as part of the Relentless TAS Suzuki team for the 2009 British Superbike championship, racing alongside Atsushi Watanabe.
The 22-year-old Northern Irishman makes the step up after three years with Relentless Suzuki in the British Supersport class.
Lowry said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity, not only to stay with Relentless Suzuki by TAS Racing, but also to get a crack at the British Superbike class.
“I watched BSB on TV as a kid and to be racing in it next year is unbelievable. I do believe I can deliver for the team and I’ve set myself achievable targets. To be working with a factory supported team like Relentless Suzuki is the icing on the cake and I’m sure Atsu’s experience will prove invaluable.”
Team principal Philip Neill told the BSB website: “We wanted to further the career of a young British rider, Ian is only 22 and we believe he is a very talented rider. We have a programme that we are putting together for him over the winter that includes testing and training so that he is ready for the start of the season.
“[Former BSB champion] John Reynolds will also be working closely with him during the season to give him advice and mentor him.”
Relentless also announced that Lowry’s fellow Ulsterman BJ Toal will race for Suzuki in British Supersport and Cameron Donald in Superstock.
