KTM Restricts 1190 RC8 Availability In The USA

KTM restrict supply of 2009 1190 RC 8

2009 KTM 1190 RC8 RKTM says its long-awaited 2009 model year 1190 RC8 will be available only through a “Priority Delivery Deposit Program.”

Consumers will need to visit a KTM dealer to put down a $1,500 deposit to secure the bike. But they’ll need to hurry: The program is only available through December 31, 2008.

KTM says it will begin deliveries in “early” 2009.

The drawback in RC8 availability appears to be result of the ongoing global economic situation.

Earlier this year KTM announced it would carry out a selective product policy in North America to partially compensate for the exchange rate’s negative influences on business. Then, in November, the Austrian OEM announced a plan to cut motorcycle production by 10 percent and lay off 60 workers.

“As the risk of a recession has become greater, we have to assume that the relevant sales markets for KTM will become smaller,” CEO Stefan Pierer said.

“I think the number one issue, in a market like this, is to adjust your market expectations and your sales expectations to what you believe the premium segment of the market has in it,” Jon Erik Burleson, president, KTM North America, Inc. told Dealernews. “It’s always good to have one less of a product than what the market wants if you want that product to maintain a good demand at the price you sell it for.”
