BBC MotoGP Commentary Team Remains Unchanged
Parrish, Perry, Cox and Roberts remain as BBC MotoGP commentators
The BBC has confirmed that its MotoGP commentary team will remain unchanged for the 2009 season.
With Eurosport’s long broadcasting agreement with MotoGP having come to an unpopular end last season, there had been speculation that some of the British Eurosport team – consisting of Toby Moody, Julian Ryder and Randy Mamola – might have joined the BBC for 2009, when it will become the exclusive MotoGP broadcaster on British television.
However, the BBC has decided to keep its existing line-up intact.
“Suzi Perry will be presenting with commentary coming from Steve Parrish and Charlie Cox and pit lane reports from Matt Roberts,” said a report on the BBC website.
The BBC’s exclusive deal has generated concern from fans regarding the amount of track action it will broadcast at each MotoGP weekend, compared with Eurosport’s extensive coverage, particularly with the corporation also acquiring the rights to Formula One from this season.
The report stated that “Schedule times, channels and services will be provided for each [MotoGP] event in due course,” but it seems that the MotoGP races will be shown live on BBC2, with qualifying and the 125/250cc races available via the ‘Red Button’ option for those with digital TV. No practice action is expected to be shown.
“The BBC Red Button will allow viewers to watch qualifying, then the 125cc and 250cc races and all the post-race reaction and interviews on MotoGP Extra,” said the report.
“All the action will also be available on the BBC Sport website (UK users only) so you can watch the races if you cannot get to a TV.
“Or if you missed the race or simply just want to watch it again you can do so on our iPlayer service for seven days after it has happened.”
I am really going to miss the guys from Eurosport. They always provided tons of information and great commentary during the races. Hopefully the BBC guys take note of how good Eurosport was and how the fans enjoyed them.
What a load of rubbish. Cox and Parish have the made the best motorsport on tv a bore. I avoided BBC at all costs in the Eurosport era and that’s not going to change now. Will watch on the web, commentary or not!!!
Moto GP without Julian Ryder and Toby Moody and Randy Momola is unthinkable, BBC coverage is a disgrace. I will be following Moto GP in the press as i cannot face a season with them morons commentating ruining the pinnacle of motorcycle racing.
I totally agree – As a HUGE MotoGP fan, I will not be watching BBC. The aren’t a patch of the boys from Eurosport who made an incredible sport all the more better.
I actually think the idea of listening to BBC would detract from my enjoyment. BAD move BBC… and I can speak for a HUGE motorbike club here in Dublin – NOONE will watch your coverage if you choose to ignore the three best guys in the business…Julian Ryder and Toby Moody and Randy Momola.
Shame on you…
i cant believe it!!!!!! no toby, randy or julian. i fucking hate watching the bbc coverage!!!! lets protest and refuse to pay the tv licence. the bbc needs to wake up!!!!
I feel like a kid who asked for a pony for christmas and got a chemistry set. BBC coverage is too short, too sterile, unemotional, uninformative, and with the Suzi-JT gush fest, just uncomfortable to watch. Give me the details, the gossip, the anger and the passion. Or just show an hour of DIY SOS. No, that actually has more laughs and drama than BBC coverage. Jeez, Sexcetera is less porno than watching Perry pore over JT. I can’t believe this is being allowed to happen!
Way to go media folk – you have just got rid of thousands of MotoGP fans. Or perhaps Dorna wants MotoGP to fail? That’s another story!
It now looks like Eurosport will be covering the MotoGP, the main event will be shown later in the day with the 125’s and 250’s being shown live. This I believe is due to contractual obligations to the BBC deal. All we can do is wait and see what format the new BBC coverage takes – they may stick to their current format, or they might just suprise us all!
Bad Bad news the bbc will fuk it, up they always do with the bikes especialy if they get in the way of the poxy tennis. I would rather watch Gordon Brown talk bollocks all day than watch it on the B Bloody C
Toby and Julian Rock
Actually I prefer the BBC commentary team. Ryder & Moody often prattle on like a couple of senile old goats in a retirement home; talking complete gibberish and making the sort of stupid comments that Murray Walker would be ashamed of. Whenever there was coverage from both channels I always sought out the BBC and when I have no choice but to watch Eurosport I sonetimes get so annoyed with the mindless drivel they are speaking that I turn the sound off!
OTOH I totally agree about the BBCs shallow coverage. I shall probably watch the qualifying and lead up on Eurosport then switch to BBC for the actual race.
