The Kennedy Coca Cola North West 200 celebrates its 80th Birthday this weekend May 16th. Hopefully the sun will bless the 250,000 race fans that will flock to the Portrush / Portstewart coast line to witness the fastest road race in the world. Michael Rutter will line up for his 16th NW200 event with 12 wins under his helmet.
The picturesque coastline curves and 200mph straight sections make this circuit a huge draw for road race fans around the world. The Irish welcome guarantee’s a return visit and the race week is now the biggest ‘live’ event in Northern Ireland, with ‘Live’ BBC coverage and the world media following every race this event has a huge global appeal.
Being a life long fan of his local event Alistair Kennedy took on sponsorship of the NW200 race week, the Kennedy Group commitment has grown over the years and with his enthusiasm and support from his business he has managed to raise the bar year on year. The Northern Irish tourist board have seen the benefit an event like the NW200 brings to the local community and have invested with Alistair. The NW200 brand for 2009 has taken a huge step with the introduction of Coca Cola as partners for this the 80th Birthday event. Alistair has not stopped there, looking for more than just a week in May to promote this event he has searched further and wider.
For 2009 the NW200 Brand along with Coca Cola has brought Michael Rutter and Rob Mac Racing together for a serious assault of the British Superbike series, the most successful domestic championship in the world. Tonight Tuesday 12th of May the 2009 NW200 kicks into life with the first practice at 7pm. The scene is set for an amazing Birthday celebration and Michael Rutter on the NW200 Coca Cola Zero Yamaha is planning to be a major part of the party.
