British 125GP: Robbie Stewart Breaks His Back In Freak Accident At Croft
Team Repli-Cast UK suffer the highs and lows of racing at Croft
We wish to let you all know that whilst leading the 125 GP British Championship at Croft with only 1 lap left to go, Robbie Stewart low sided whilst trying to defend his line at over 130 mph.
He slid head first into the tyre wall and suffered pain in his neck, following this, we had him checked out at the medical centre where as a precaution an x-ray was taken.
On examining the X-ray, everyone including the medical staff were shocked to find that he had received a break to his back.
He was then rushed to Middlesbrough Spinal Injuries Hospital where it was confirmed he has broken the 7th and 8th vertebrates in his spine.
Gary Dawson Team Manager, Repli-Cast UK Racing Team
“Words cannot express how we all feel right now but these are the risks we all know are part of racing and we unfortunately must except them.”
“Following a front Row start and a fantastic race and for this to happen with only one lap left to go makes the situation feel even worse for Robbie as he knew the race was his and the first place podium was on the cards.”
“On a more positive note, Robbie is in high spirits in Middlesbrough Hospital and with no permanent damage, he will be fitted with a body cast tomorrow which he will need to keep on for 6 to 8 weeks but unfortunately this means that he will be out of racing for the rest of this season.”
“Robbie and all the team would like to thank all the medical staff at Croft Circuit as well as the Marshalls and the Chris Jones memorial fund for supplying the x-ray unit. We also would like to Thank all our Sponsors and friends for their kind support & comments and assure you Robbie will be back with the Team testing the new 600 superstock bike as soon as his injuries heal and he will be ready for the assault on next years 600 Championship.”
“I don’t feel that its the right time to publish a full race report for Croft as a matter of respect to Robbie and we all wish him a Speedy recovery and look forward to the new challenge ahead for next season”.
