WSBK: LeoVince take World Supersport hat trick in Australia
Carlos Checa also takes first place in WSBK at Phillip Island
A day to remember for LeoVince, 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the World Supersport first round at Australia’s Phillip Island.
Eugene Laverty with the Parkalgar Honda team was the 1st to the chequered flag on his LeoVince equipped Honda CBR600RR, after leading from start to finish in the re-started race. 2nd place went to Spaniard Lascorz on the Provec Motocard teams Kawasaki ZX6R, with 3rd place going to Fabien Foret riding with the Lorenzini by Leoni team, again on a Kawasaki ZX6R.
All 3 teams run the latest spec LeoVince ‘Corsa’ race exhaust systems, developed in conjunction with the teams and the factory technicians over the autumn & winter season. With the teams all running the latest 2010 machinery from Honda and Kawasaki it was necessary for LeoVince to develop new systems, for the Honda it was a case of improving on what was already a good system, and for Kawasaki’s new baby 600, completely new systems were designed and tested with the engine builders, the teams and riders. Attention to detail is the key with LeoVince, finely tuned and gasflowed header pipes, optimum tube lengths and diameters, with all pipe joints internally polished, and all held together with LeoV’s ’shock absorbing’ spring connectors.
Eugene Laverty also set the fastest lap around the hot circuit, at just 1min35.204 on lap 6, which not only had the team jumping for joy but was further proof of how good a package Simon Buckmasters team have put together.
In the World Superbike races, the first race went to Leon Haslam (sponsored by LeoVince in 2009 when he was with Stiggy Honda), but only just, after a photo finish decided the winner. Race 2 went to LeoVince sponsored Carlos Checa on his 1198 Ducati with the Althea-Ducati team. Some very brave racing by the Spaniard thoughout the race, especially on the last lap where he managed to reel in the 3 riders in front of him, Sylvan Guintoli, Fabrizio and then finally slipped past Haslam with just 3 bends to go, to take a well deserved win. Althea-Ducati use LeoVince exhaust systems, and on these 1198R’s they use reverse bends on the pipes, the multiple welds on the bends all hand-crafted are simply works of art!
